"Sleep Well" – A lullaby for adults
Sleep Well (God Rays in the Pantheon)
The idea behind this song was to create a lullaby specifically for adults. I drew some inspiration from guided meditations and wanted to describe images of 'places of longing.' The somewhat hectic part at the beginning represents the journey to the airport—a metaphor for the daily stress we all want to escape from in the evening.
This track and its lyrics mean a lot to me personally. I recently went back and polished the text, fixing a few weak spots. I’ve become very mindful lately about making sure every single word belongs there, eliminating any 'filler' lines. In the chorus, the interplay between the backing vocals and the lead turned out exactly how I imagined it.
Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Crowded streets, traffic jams, honking horns, neon lights,
Running, running, what's the time, check the checklist, stay polite.
All the people, talking fast, where's the queue, who is next?
Got your papers, got your stuff? Now sit down, find some rest.
[Bridge]
Then you reached your destination,
Close your eyes, take a breath.
Nothing less than your salvation,
Close your eyes, you feel relaxed.
[Pre-Chorus 1]
You feel the sea breeze,
on your skin.
Hear crashing waves and salt you smell.
Endless ocean,
breathes within,
I wish you to sleep well.
[Chorus 1]
(Sleep well!)
At the ocean, feeling whole,
(Sleep well!)
Golden twilight settling down.
(Sleep well!)
You can finally rest your soul!
(Sleep well!)
Gentle sand’s your sleeping gown.
I wish you to sleep well.
[Bridge]
Then you reached your destination,
Close your eyes, take a breath.
Nothing less than your salvation,
Close your eyes, you feel relaxed.
[Pre-Chorus 2]
On the mountains,
Right on top.
Endless views, no end to tell.
Breathe the fresh air,
as night drops.
I wish you to sleep well.
[Chorus 2]
(Sleep well!)
In the mountains, feeling whole,
(Sleep well!)
Reddish twilight settling down.
(Sleep well!)
You can finally rest your soul!
(Sleep well!)
Eternal stone, your resting ground.
I wish you to sleep well.
[Interlude]
Sleep well!
Sleep well!
[Pre-Chorus 3]
Wine and culture,
All around,
History and art that dwell.
Take a walk,
On cobbled ground;
I wish you to sleep well.
[Chorus 3]
(Sleep well!)
Tired from walking, feeling whole,
(Sleep well!)
Vivid twilight settling down.
(Sleep well!)
You can finally rest your soul!
(Sleep well!)
Your inner sanctum you have found.
I wish you to sleep well.
[Outro]
I wish you to sleep well.
Sleep well!
I wish you to sleep well.
