The Independent Identity of the Tirale Kunbi Caste of Vidarbha, Maharashtra
Tirale Kunbi (also spelled Tirole; Marathi: तिरळे) of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra is a separate, independent caste. While it includes "Kunbi" in its name, it is not the same as other groups categorized under the broader Kunbi designation. The Tirale Kunbi community practices endogamy, traditionally marrying strictly within the Tirale Kunbi caste.
It is sometimes confused with the Tilori (or Tillori) caste of the Konkan region—largely due to English transliteration, where the letter "l" is used to represent multiple distinct Marathi sounds—but they are two entirely different castes.
