Why don't artists that are big now release more seasonal songs?

MJ and Mariah Carey are geting every year more fans, as off there seasonal song (Thriller, All I want for Chrimast) are really succesfull big for a short time and a lot off people get basicly an advertisement for there catalog. This is happening long after there prime.

So why don't more people do this longterm investment?
