Physicality and Ego
Some days are harder than others. My family has been in strict lockdown the last two months, and my body and mind are feeling the effects rather deeply - tension, stress, lack of fitness, monotony, and insecure future all present so clearly, so convincingly. Separation in these circumstances - that is, identifying with my body and my thoughts - is pervasive and persuasive. Coming back to equanimity, recognizing the ubiquity of awareness, and being fully present are increasingly challenging.
Yesterday I actually became resentful of mindfulness itself while listening to a dharma talk... All the injustices in the world become glaring reminders of the dark times we live in, deserving harshest judgement... and how easily I forget how dark things could be, and yet are not. I forget how fortunate we are to live in a time of relative plenty, where luxuries such as variety of nutritious food, electricity, internet, and a healthy child are easily taken for granted.
Gratitude is not so easy to find. It must be recognized and cultivated. The ego is often a jealous, miserly aspect of life. It can be a friend, though. Good luck and good wellness to you all. Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
