Gridlines will not "Hide" in Word 2016?

Is there a setting somewhere that defaults all Word documents to include gridlines? I've tried everything I can think of to "hide" them but they never go away; including going into the border settings and turning all of those off.
I've even uninstalled and reinstalled Office with no avail. Anyone have advice for this issue or seen it before? Thank you!
