Has anyone else struggled to get their cat to use a new hiding spot?

I adopted a shy adult rescue cat a little while ago, and I thought giving her a quiet place of her own would help her settle in. I bought a cat house after reading that enclosed spaces can make nervous cats feel safer, but she completely ignored it and kept hiding under the sofa instead.

For around two weeks I tried moving it between rooms, putting one of my worn shirts inside, and leaving treats nearby. Nothing seemed to make a difference, and I started wondering if I'd wasted my money or just picked the wrong design.

While comparing different styles, I looked through a few spots online because there were so many options. But it was difficult to know which ones cats actually liked instead of what looked nice in product photos.

Eventually I placed it in the quiet corner she already preferred, and she slowly began using it from time to time. It wasn't an instant fix, but it definitely helped.

Has anyone else found that location mattered more than the hiding spot itself?
