I'm a Pimsleur lover and built the app I wished existed for what comes next

I'm a huge Pimsleur fan. I finished Levels 1–5 Italian, and I'm almost done with Level 2 Mandarin. I also know a fair bit of French (B2+), German (B1), and Spanish (B1, rusty).

I've tried a lot of approaches over the years, and Pimsleur is my go-to recommendation for anyone starting a new language. It combines speaking, spaced repetition, and real-world vocabulary.

But after Pimsleur, what next? You see this question here often.

What I built

I've been building Jetway — a speak-first, spaced repetition language app that picks up where Pimsleur leaves off. You hear a prompt, pause, and speak your answer — just like a Pimsleur lesson, but it's adapted to you, your interests, content you watch.

Skills, not vocabulary

The key idea is that Jetway teaches skills, not vocabulary words. Skills are things you can do with the language: "describe your daily routine," "talk about your job," "explain why you're running late," "describe dietary restrictions." Skills are organized into Skillbooks (kinda like a deck). Then each skill has concepts attached to it — vocab, conjugations, expressions - that Jetway uses to generate exercises. For example:

Skill: "Ordering a coffee" Concepts: would like <menu item>, coffee, to pay

One day you might say "I would like a coffee, please." Next time it's "She still needs to pay for her coffee." You learn patterns, not just a vocabulary word or one phrase.

This is how Pimsleur teaches under the covers. You don't memorize word lists, you learn to do things. Jetway makes that explicit and lets you keep going with it:

  • Every exercise is different — you constantly encounter words in new contexts, so you learn to use them flexibly, not just recognize one memorized sentence.
  • You choose what to study — create a Skillbook for your job, your upcoming trip, or words you picked up watching TV. No fixed curriculum.
  • Immersive - learn in your target language, with instant pronunciation feedback & realistic voices
  • Scales past A2 - Jetway is purpose built for intermediate and advanced learners

It also goes further than just speaking exercises and practice, with integrated AI chat recommendations, YouTube video recommendations and progress tracking.

Jetway is currently free. Just go to jetway.ai and sign up.

I would genuinely love feedback from Pimsleur users specifically.

I'm also happy to personally help you set up your first Skillbook and coach you on effective ways to level up your language learning. Book 30 mins with me here if you're interested or join the Discord and share your feedback.
