What's one moment of clarity that didn't last and what did it cause you to tell yourself?
The Mechanics of Awareness opens with a simple observation:
We've all been there. A conversation, a walk, a meditation, a therapy session, a book, a grief, a joy – and suddenly perception widens. Things feel clearer. The weight lifts. You think: This is it. Something has shifted.
And then, hours or days later, it fades. The old patterns return. The mind fills again. The body tightens.
In most frameworks, that collapse gets explained as personal failure. You didn't try hard enough. Your ego resisted. You lost discipline.
But what if that's wrong? What if the collapse isn't failure – but information?
So here's the question I've been sitting with, and I'd love to hear how it lands for you:
Can you remember a specific moment when insight or presence arrived, stayed for a while, and then left? And at the time, what story did you tell yourself about why it left?
No need to analyze. No need to fix. Just share what you remember, if you want to.
I'll go first in the comments.
