African Militarism

Ideologies

African Militarism is a political ideology that emphasizes strong national defence, strategic self-reliance, disciplined armed forces, and Pan-African security cooperation. It argues that African countries should be capable of defending their sovereignty, protecting their people, and contributing to regional peace without excessive dependence on foreign military powers.

The ideology supports professional armed forces under constitutional civilian control, investment in domestic defence industries, modern military technology, and cooperation among African nations to address common security challenges such as terrorism, piracy, trafficking, and cross-border conflict.

At its core, African Militarism views national defence as a means to safeguard peace, sovereignty, and development—not as an end in itself.
