STUDY: Green Tea Supplements Increase Longevity in Mice
A study in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry measured the effects of EGCG (a component of green tea) on the lifespans and aging markers in mice.
Long term EGCG supplementation was found to:
- Lower the risk of death by nearly 47%
- Decrease signs of DNA damage and inflammation
- Improve cell waste clearance
EGCG is a type of catechin - a natural phenol and antioxidant most commonly found in green tea. It is well known for its health benefits and is the most studied and potent of the green tea catechins.
The researchers concluded in this study that the administration of EGCG significantly improved the lifespan, cellular health, inflammation levels, and cell waste clearance of aging mice.
