Where can I find good Talking
Background. In college, my freshman year (1970), I took a couple of classes on conversation and can still cite a couple of references from memory. It left me with a keen attention to the ebb and flow of the rhythms in everyday interactions. Over my lifespan I've spent many delightful hours developing skills and practicing them.
After watching Alison Wood Brooks Google Talk interview about her popular book, TALK: The Science of Conversation and the Art of Being Ourselves, based on her courses at Harvard, I felt I actually needed to read her book. Which I got from the Seattle Public Library and loved it.
Since retiring I have gradually understood that what really feeds my soul is rich conversations with people. I'm in a group which discusses films, once a month we go to a theater and talk in a cafe, the other weeks we watch separately and gather to discuss (like a book club, but for film). Another group I'm in takes excerpts from various texts and discuss them using ideas or theories from Carl Jung.
So, I'm wondering what makes for a satisfying conversation for you? And, where are you finding that in Seattle?
