the website management tools i kept after cutting my stack in half
went through all my website management tools over the holidays because i was paying for nine things and using maybe five. what survived, for managing 25ish client sites:
1- managewp for bulk updates and the client report pdf. still the backbone. con is the add ons nickel and dime you, backups and uptime are each their own line item per site.
2- devdome for the single overview, uptime updates backups and vitals for every site on one screen instead of tab roulette. it is newer so the plugin ecosystem is smaller, and the client facing reports are plainer than umbrella, that is the honest tradeoff. i keep it because the one screen actually saves me time on monday triage.
3- wp umbrella purely for the reports and php error tracking on my three fussiest clients who want a monthly pdf that looks expensive.
4- uptimerobot free tier as a dumb second opinion, since i do not want my monitoring and my management living in the same account if that account has a bad day.
5- a plain notion board for renwals and passwords, because no tool has ever nailed the boring admin side for me.
killed managewp backups since host snapshots are better, a separate analytcs tool, and two plugins i cannot even remember the point of. what did you cut that you do not miss?
