If You’ve Sent 200+ Applications With No Replies, Read This.
Finally seeing real progress in my job search again, and it wasn’t because I applied more.
I wanted to share this because the last couple of months honestly felt like a black hole. I’d been applying nonstop for US + UK roles, sometimes 20+ applications a day, and I kept getting absolutely nothing back.
No callbacks, no screening calls, just automated rejections.
At some point, I stopped blaming the market and started looking at what I was doing wrong. And the answer was embarrassingly simple:
I was doing the exact same thing everyone else was doing.
- Same boards.
- Same generic resume.
- Same mass-apply strategy.
- Same “maybe this one will work” hope.
So I changed a few things, not drastically, but enough to get momentum again.
1. I stopped blasting the same resume everywhere
Tailoring it made a bigger difference than I expected. Even changing a few lines to match the job description helped a ton.
I tried doing it manually at first, but it took forever and I kept missing things. Eventually I started using a tool that rewrites your resume based on the job post, and that shortcut alone got me more responses than the generic version I was spamming.
2. I applied to jobs outside the big job boards
LinkedIn and Indeed aren’t useless, but you’re competing with hundreds of people for the same role. I started checking company websites directly and smaller business listings. The difference in applicant count is insane.
3. I focused on quality instead of volume
Instead of applying to anything remotely related, I slowed down and focused on roles I actually fit. My hit rate went up immediately.
4. I cleaned up my resume
- Removed paragraphs.
- Added bullet points.
- Added metrics.
- Made it look cleaner and more intentional.
- My old resume was basically a wall of text trying to “sound impressive.”
- The updated version finally looked readable.
After months of silence, I finally started getting:
• recruiter replies
• screening calls
• interview rounds
• actual humans responding
I tried tailoring everything manually, but it took forever and half the time I felt like I was guessing.
What surprisingly helped was a tool I stumbled across on Reddit: JobOwl
👉 https://jobowl.co?atp=9Sf6Ah
Here’s what it does (in the simplest terms):
You open a job post, click the extension, and it rewrites your resume to match the responsibilities and keywords of that specific role.
It’s definitely not perfect, I still make small edits so it sounds like me, but the difference in responses was honestly obvious.
Before using it:
• almost no replies
• auto rejections
• not a single screening call for weeks
After using it:
• more recruiter messages
• more callbacks
• interview rounds actually started moving again
• I finally felt like my resume wasn’t invisible anymore
I’m not saying it’s a magic fix, but it genuinely helped my resume speak the same “language” as the job descriptions instead of the generic version I kept sending out.
If you're stuck with the silent treatment phase of job hunting, maybe try tailoring your resume properly, with or without a tool. It made way more difference than I expected.
Nothing crazy, but way better than the dead silence I was in.
If you’re feeling stuck or burnt out, you’re definitely not alone. Small strategy changes honestly matter more than grinding out 100 applications a week.
