My Introduction to solace Health
Hi everyone,
I was a nurse at the bedside for over a decade, mostly working with immigrant populations where communication was a constant challenge. Even when patients spoke some English, medical language, insurance details, and the speed of decisions made it really hard for people to fully understand what was happening. I spent a lot of time trying to slow things down, re-explain things in simpler terms, and help patients feel a little less lost in a system that moves fast.
Later on, I went through my own health issues and suddenly found myself on the other side of the system. Even with my healthcare background, I was surprised by how difficult it was to advocate for myself while dealing with complex illnesses. I still felt left out of conversations at times or like decisions were being made without me fully understanding all the options or what I was agreeing to.
Going through both experiences really changed how I see healthcare. When I found Solace, it felt like the first time all of it clicked into place. The things I had been doing at the bedside and the things I was struggling with as a patient finally felt connected, like there was actually a role that made sense of both sides of that experience.
Advocacy gave me a way to take everything I had seen and experienced and actually use it to help people feel more supported and included in their care.
