9/11 and its Impact on Media

So, while MovieBob was horrible in explaining why and how all media is somehow related to 9/11, I think that a more interesting conversation could be made about how a national tragedy such as 9/11 can impact how writers and movie makers create their work.

For example War of the Worlds 2005 was partially inspired by September 11th, with the dust of the people that got incinerated by the Martian lasers being reminiscent of the dust of the rubble from ground zero. That and the overall fear of what's going to happen next after the disastrous events that occurred was carried into the actual film.

I feel that there is something to the whole “important tragic events” influencing other films, potentially for years to come, just not the highly over simplified version of “Oh the film is about heroism therefore it's about 9/11, because that requires you to forget that the concept of heroism has been around since before New York was a concept.

Now that I think about it, this is just a smaller example example of the “All Art Is Political” mentality being proven to not make sense if you think about it. Because MovieBob simplified Avengers to “it’s about 9/11” and oversimplified The Amazing Digital Circus to “it's about COVID”, he ignored any other possible inspiration for the series he talks about. For example The Amazing Digital Circus was inspired by the short story I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream, which was based on the cold war occurring at the time, as well as other things that were a part of Gooseworks life such as working at a McDonald's. And the Avengers is a culmination of five films that were part of the same universe that were inspired by comics and storylines that have existed since before the towers were even built. But if your analysis for the media you're reviewing can be boiled down to “oh it's about 9/11” “oh it's about Trump” “oh it's about COVID” and nothing else that you're not actually going over the media or digging deeper into the messages of the media political or otherwise, you are just adding a blanket statement and declaring the blanket statement is deep without actually having to think about it.

But those are my thoughts on that topic. What do you guys think about 9/11 and other national tragedies impacting creative works.
