Although Valve has kept very quiet regarding pricing for both of its upcoming Steam Devices (Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR Headset) since their initial announcement last November, a couple of in-depth analyses of the European retailers Smarty and Alza's source code (credited to u/ClawSomeGamer and u/Hajedan), have managed to locate some of the placeholder prices that may have been previously undisclosed. If you look closely enough at the source code, you will find that Valve's pricing may indicate that they won't be subsidizing their Steam Devices in the same manner as they do with a traditional video games console; rather, it appears that they will be priced similar to Premium Small Form Factor Personal Computers.

**The Breakdown:**

**The Raw Numbers**: The scoop is from Czech retail stores. It lists the 512GB device for 19,826 CZK (\~$950 USD), while the 1TB device costs 22,306 CZK (\~$1,070 USD).

**"Real" US Cost**: Before freaking out over the $1k cost, it is worth remembering that these retailers tuck on a 15-17% surcharge over Valve's pricing (Relative comparisons on Steam Deck OLED models).

**Estimated MSRP**: Without the "retailer tax" factor, the estimated US price of the base model would range from $815 to $826, while the high-end model would range from $916 to $930.

“This would make the Steam Machine considerably more expensive than the PS5 Pro (which is going to be under $800), as well as about 50% more expensive compared to the regular PS5.”

Why so high? The tech market is going through what has been termed a "RAMaggedon" - a memory price increase caused by a shortage of NAND memories due to AI. Industry insiders confirmed at CES 2026 that this is what is pushing the price increase, which Valve’s use of fast memory makes them vulnerable to.

**TL;DR**: Leaked code from European retailers points to a direct US price of roughly $820–$930 for the new Steam Machine, likely due to the ongoing global RAM and NAND shortages.

***Does an $800+ price tag kill your interest, or does the promise of a fully open, upgradable "console-sized" PC justify the premium over a locked-down ecosystem like PlayStation or Xbox?***
