Beautiful Moments in S2E5

SpoilerTheories

"A landry buried it, and landry will dig it up" - lovely foreshadowing of Kat with the shoes in the field - not a candlestick in the library ;)

Kat telling Elliiot how intelligent his founding family member was, overwriting some of his more modern heritage - helping him see his inheritance wasn't his father's ill behavior alone, but other Augustines were much more like him and Vic was the (bitter) outlier.

Juxtaposition of family putting lapel buttons on each other in resentfulness with injury or with care and love.

The symmetry of an Augustine in 1814 and present day helping a widowed/widower Landry manage the farm in the absence of other blood family.

The 'memory' of Colton acknowledging that he knows who Alice is and values her.

Things to look forward to: Elliot goggling who Thomas Coyle was, and that hint of jealousy maybe eventually driving him to straighten up and fly right by being more open about his feelings.

Wondering who Noah LeBlanc's grandfather "Wally" may turn out to be in the past. And why it may be a noteworthy (nay useful?) trait that he's such a good swimmer...'a big fish in a small pond' who didn't wind up getting the scholarship to swim in larger waters.

A moment in time when someone realizes they can travel without the pond. Perhaps Colton already has.

Technical Difficulties & Notes:

I have to be honest, I don't find it likely that someone like Del with so many trust issues would get buddy buddy with someone so smarmy as Sam, all the more when she's seeing him work his way through other women in town.

Sam hasn't earned her respect at all, and while I get that she's healing and finally moving on to moments of joy with her own family, opening the door to a stranger feels so out of character for her and we haven't seen enough evidence as to why she'd take that risk. It can't just be that he's taking an interest. Their 'forced proximity' storyline is currently feeling too forced. But then again I was always of the opinion Diane Keaton shouldn't have wound up with smarmy Jack Nicholson in Something's Gotta Give either (why does anyone think he's handsome or have an attractive personality?), so...maybe I genuinely don't know what 65ish year old women find attractive in plastic and overly flirtatious gents.

Around minute 27 we have the cheating shots for Casey some others here posted from the production schedule - off alone holding the check; the person who steps into the gazebo is Casey's double, so they didn't have to be there that day for the crowd scene, likely unavailable or saving shoot days since Casey didn't have lines in that stretch. Can't recall who asked or what thread that was previously, but this is the episode where that footage landed.

If the cops do 'find' what Kat unburied this week in 2024, it's beginning to tilt us to past actions changing future events - because her unburying them back in 1814 should have been discovered long before 2024...unless that hadn't yet 'happened' in the past until 'now' in her linear personal timeline, if you follow me. In any case, they were harvesting on Landry land, so even with the land limbo sitch at present it seems unlikely cops would be rummaging around on Landry property in 2024 without some intel or fresh reason. The land lease is in stasis and if anyone found something on the property right now it would be more likely to be a Landry or Augustine (or even Danny) - not the police, so it'll be curious to see how they tie that in next week.

It would be creepy if they were somehow moved and found on the grounds of Lingermore during that estate turnover, but ... that's a complication the writers are unlikely to try to create with all the threads they already have going.

But it is interesting that Elliot is housesitting at Lingermore in 2002. That's setting us up well for the future fight we've heard in flashbacks. And really telling about how widely respected he is in town that as a college youngster he's entrusted with watching over the estate. If Evelyn had a hand in selecting him for that task, perhaps there's ...a reason.

I'm still curious about what - if anything - Elliot will learn Evelyn left for him in her will. Evelyn knew to leave things to the Herald that Kat should have access to; would she leave things for Elliot to the school? It sounds like school will be restarting soon, based on Casey's words.

I do get the sense more and more as Casey talked about 'not being sure why [they] were there' that Casey is traveling from somewhere, and future seems more likely as many of us have guessed here. But they may surprise us and be from the past, but have travelled to further times in the future well enough to know that printed media will die.

There are just so so many brunettes in this show. goes to freshen my black hair dye to cover my auburn roots
