🧠START HERE: What r/ThisIsNeurodivergence Is All About ♾️
🧠Welcome to r/ThisIsNeurodivergence
If you’ve ever done something, thought something, struggled with something, or developed some oddly specific habit and wondered:
“Is this a neurodivergent thing, or is this just me?”
You’re in the right place.
r/ThisIsNeurodivergence is a community for sharing the funny, frustrating, confusing, fascinating, difficult, and ridiculously relatable parts of living with a brain that works a little differently.
You don’t have to know exactly where you fit before participating.
♾️** Who is this community for**?
This community welcomes people from across the neurodivergent spectrum, including people with:
• ADHD
• Autism
• AuDHD
• Dyslexia
• Dyscalculia
• Dyspraxia
• Tourette syndrome and tic disorders
• OCD
• Learning differences
• Other forms of neurodivergence
People who are questioning, exploring, or learning more about themselves are welcome here too.
Friends, partners, parents, family members, educators, and others who genuinely want to better understand neurodivergent experiences are also welcome to participate respectfully.
đź’ What can I post here?
Pretty much anything related to the lived experience of neurodivergence.
That includes:
• Relatable everyday experiences
• “Does anyone else do this?” moments
• ADHD, autistic, and AuDHD experiences
• Hyperfixations and special interests
• Executive dysfunction
• Sensory experiences
• Social and communication differences
• Masking and unmasking
• Routines and unconventional habits
• Work and school experiences
• Relationships and friendships
• Things that help you function
• Things you still haven’t figured out
• Questions and discussions
• Memes and humor
• Personal accomplishments
• Stories you simply want somebody else to understand
If it made you stop and think “there has to be somebody else whose brain does this,” there’s probably a place for it here.
🧩 You don’t have to relate to everything
Neurodivergence isn’t one universal experience.
Two autistic people can experience the same situation completely differently. Two people with ADHD can struggle with entirely different things. An AuDHD experience might overlap with both while still being distinct.
That variety is part of why this community exists.
Your experience doesn’t have to represent everyone.
It just has to be yours.
❤️** How we treat each othe**r
Different communication styles are expected here.
Some people communicate directly. Some write paragraphs. Some need extra context. Some interpret language literally. Some struggle to put what they’re experiencing into words at all.
Give people some latitude.
Ask what someone means before assuming the worst interpretation.
Disagreement is fine. Personal attacks aren’t.
And please don’t tell somebody they’re “not really neurodivergent” because their experience doesn’t resemble yours.
We can compare experiences without turning neurodivergence into a competition nobody asked to enter.
⚕️A quick note about medical advice
Sharing personal experiences is encouraged.
Diagnosing strangers isn’t.
It’s completely reasonable to say:
“I experience this too, and this is what helped me.”
That’s different from telling somebody what condition they definitively have or what treatment they definitively need.
For diagnosis, medication, treatment, or urgent medical concerns, qualified healthcare professionals are the appropriate resource.
🏷️** Please use post flai**r
Flair makes the community substantially easier to navigate as it grows.
Choose whichever flair most closely matches what you’re posting. If nothing fits, use the closest general category and the mod team can adjust things as the community develops.
The organizational system will inevitably evolve once thousands of neurodivergent people begin organizing things together. There may be some irony involved.
đź‘‹ New here? Jump in.
You don’t need a grand introduction.
Make a post. Ask a question. Share something funny. Tell us about something nobody around you seems to understand. Talk about your current hyperfixation. Share the strategy that finally made some everyday task easier.
Or just read for a while.
There’s no participation quota.
And if you eventually stumble across something here that makes you think:
“WAIT. YOU GUYS DO THAT TOO?”
Then r/ThisIsNeurodivergence is doing exactly what it was created to do.
Welcome. We’re glad you’re here.
