Rant Time: When Fashion Shows Ignore YoungGentlemanChic Basics
anyone else perpetually frustrated watching high fashion shows and seeing almost nothing remotely resembling a modern, stylish take on classic menswear? I'm talking well-fitting chinos, a tailored sport coat, quality knitwear – the kind of stuff a young guy trying to project confidence and sophistication might actually wear. Instead,it's all avant-garde experimentation that wouldn't look remotely appropriate outside of a runway.
It feels like there's a massive disconnect. On one hand, online communities are full of guys asking for advice on building a versatile, adaptable wardrobe based on timeless pieces. On the other, the industry tastemakers seem solely focused on pushing boundaries with pieces that are deliberately outlandish. I get the artistic expression aspect, but is there really no room for showcasing elegantly updated versions of classic "Young gentleman Chic" staples?
Maybe the goal is to trickle-down influence, with subtle elements eventually working their way into mainstream styles. But it often feels like they're catering to a fully different audience with radically different priorities than the average guy trying to look sharp for work, dates, or social events. So, where do young guys look for inspiration if even the high fashion shows disregard their needs?
