Normal to hit impassable walls across all modes?

In my normal campaign and the night one I’m stuck on levels in which I have 3 star the one right before it but stand no chance in the very next level. Seems like this game has balancing issues or I’m just awful at it. Been playing about a week and a half. Just making sure this is normal?
