"Standing in the sun, getting Black as I want" - Yasiin Bey

Artist: Yasiin Bey Song: Revelations Released: June 9, 2009

Lyric:

Standing in the sun, getting Black as I want

Context (via Genius):

Yasiin’s lyrics are often very socially aware, and in turn is immensely proud of his African-American heritage.

‘Standing in the sun getting black as I want’, implying he’s happy to darken himself in the sunshine (counter to the popular culture of lightening ones complexion/to look more white)
