**Welcome to UnionMMA – A Fan-Led Movement for Fighter Justice**

I've followed combat sports since the Pride era and early UFC. Like many others, I’ve been consistently moved by the physical and psychological extremes fighters endure. These athletes sacrifice their long-term health to entertain millions.

The recent case of Ben Askren highlights the system's failure. Despite his status as a widely recognized athlete, he required a double lung transplant and survived only because a private individual funded it. In any regulated major sport, an athlete of his profile would receive institutional medical support. That did not exist here.

This subreddit was created in response. The current model is structurally outdated. MMA must adapt or be replaced by a framework that ensures basic protections. This platform is intended to coordinate practical steps toward that goal.

Areas of focus include:

* Legal reclassification of fighters as employees
* Implementation of health insurance and retirement systems
* Development of collective bargaining structures
* Identification of legislative and regulatory paths
* Use of media and sponsor pressure to influence change
* Support or design of alternative promotions with equitable models

This is a design environment for reform. Fighters cannot lead this effort alone. Fans must apply coordinated pressure, supply research, and build the groundwork.
