Can someone explain the whole process?

I went to the website and clicked the link to apply for VRE. I'm supposed to be hearing back from them soon, I'm guessing to set up an initial appointment to speak with a counselor.

Can someone explain it Barney style how the whole process will go?

I'm also very interested in the best way to plead my case. Some guidance on things to do and avoid would be nice.
