New Study | Vielight Intranasal PBM proves 20x more efficient than transcranial for brain fluid dynamics (MRI confirmed)

Vielight Research

Hey everyone,

We just released a new blog post detailing a groundbreaking study conducted in collaboration with Baycrest Hospital. The groundbreaking study with 45 participants published in Brain Stimulation, used fMRI to observe how Photobiomodulation (PBM) affects the brain's waste clearance system (the glymphatic system).

The results reinforces Vielight's patented Intranasal + Transcranial dual approach.

Key Findings:

  • Real-time Results: PBM induced immediate changes in Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) dynamics within just 4 minutes of stimulation.
  • Massive Efficiency: Intranasal PBM achieved the same biological results as transcranial (forehead) stimulation while using roughly 1/20th of the power.
    • Intranasal (iPBM): Required only 5–9 mW/cm²
    • Transcranial (tPBM): Required 100–200 mW/cm²
  • The Melanin Factor: The study found that darker skin tones significantly reduced the efficacy of forehead stimulation. Intranasal PBM showed 0% dependence on melanin, delivering a consistent dose to everyone regardless of skin tone.

Why the Vielight Neuro's Patented (itPBM) "Dual Approach" is Critical:

This study highlights exactly why a comprehensive PBM session requires both the nose and the headset.

While transcranial (headset) LEDs are excellent for targeting the dorsal brain and cortex, the intranasal applicator acts as a powerful "shortcut" to the ventral (underside) brain and deep structures.

By combining them, you avoid "blind spots"—using the headset for surface/cortical saturation and the intranasal clip to efficiently trigger the deep-brain "flushing" mechanism that helps wash away neurotoxins.

Has anyone here noticed different effects when using the intranasal applicator on its own versus the full headset combo?
