👋 Welcome to r/Voice4Orcas

Welcome to Voice4Orcas.

This community was created for people who care deeply about orcas — especially those currently living in captivity — and who want to turn awareness into meaningful, peaceful action.

Orcas are highly social, matrilineal animals. They stay with their mothers for life, develop pod-specific dialects, and pass knowledge through generations. Learning about the live captures in the Pacific Northwest in the 1960s and 70s, including events in Penn Cove, changed how many of us understand captivity.

Although breeding programs have ended at facilities like SeaWorld, there are still orcas living in artificial environments that are dramatically smaller than their natural ocean range.

This space exists to:

• Share well-sourced educational information

• Discuss the ethics of captivity respectfully

• Explore solutions such as seaside sanctuaries

• Support peaceful advocacy including petitions and organized awareness efforts

This is not a space for harassment, threats, or personal attacks. Real change happens through education, credibility, and coordinated, lawful action.

If you believe awareness can lead to change, you’re in the right place.
