Grab your copy of Watchmen and get ready as we officially launch our book club! We’ll be discussing two chapters every week, as this will allow us to really peel through those layers in a timely fashion. We’ll start making the weekly discussion posts on each Sunday about a week or so after this initial announcement in order to give people time to get ready, so the discussion post for Week 1 will be either July 6th or July 13th, the discussion post for Week 2 will be July 13th or the 20th, the discussion post for July 20th or the 27th, and so on.

So **Week 1**, we’ll be discussing Chapters I-II and really poring over the text *and* the art. We’ll discuss the plot, the characters, the themes, the motifs, the hidden and unappreciated details, and the supplemental material at the end of the chapters.

Everyone from newcomers to Watchmen scholars are welcome to come explore this timeless novel!

Some Questions To Consider While Reading:
- Who killed the Comedian, and why? Why is his death so significant?
- What does Rorschach’s views and disposition tell us about him and the world?
- How does Chapter II reframe Chapter I?
- What themes do you see emerging?

Topics & Things We’ll Be Exploring:
- 1980’s America
- Cold War anxiety over a potential nuclear apocalypse
- Justice and accountability
- Identity, masks, and surveillance
- The structure and style of the comic (panel design, symbolism, color theory)
- And the looming question: Is this what superheroes would be like if they were actually real?

Always remember, this is a work by Dave Gibbons as much as it’s a work by Alan Moore. Really appreciate and discuss the art too.
