Daily Yōkai Encounter #48: Mikoshi-nyūdō /
Today’s yōkai is the mikoshi-nyūdō, a giant monk-like yōkai that grows taller the more you look up at it.
It usually appears at night, often on lonely roads. At first, it may look like a tall monk or shadowy figure. But when a person looks up, it becomes taller. Look higher, and it grows even more.
The fear is simple but effective: the more attention you give it, the worse it becomes.
Some stories say the trick is not to keep looking up, but to look down or call out that you have seen through it.
That makes the mikoshi-nyūdō feel like a yōkai built around panic. If you react the wrong way, it gets bigger.
Have you ever seen a tall shadow, figure, or shape at night that seemed to get stranger the longer you looked?
Have you seen something yourself, had an encounter, or experienced something you could not explain?
