Mindfulness, Meditation, Drugs (here long lasting damage), Repression, all can overstimulate the amydgala and can lead to emotional numbness and also impact how you interprete situations, this leads to the typical spiritual ego
This is what you have to deal with in the buddhist, Zen and guru community. People who lack the emotional intelligence, because they numbed themselfs, typically by active mindfulness and suppressionist ideologies (emptiness and nondual delusion).
They don't see how it impacts their empathy (like shown in the experiment in Kassel or the studies done), they literally get numb to it. They don't get how they play themselfs. It is the strongest from of ignorance there is. And ordinary people sense that. They adhere these numb teachers like TNH who justify self immolations as something holy and great and even speak out for war for the cause of diplomatic benefit. Who are manipulative, hyprocitical and even litigous in person.
They don't see that. Their lack of emotional awareness blinds their vision. They seek guidance and not buddhism or spiritual clearity, they seek a group and not redemption, they seek power for themselfs and not for the greater good.
They do not walk on the Bodhisattva way, but sadly make the majority. Enough.
