Hey — wanted to share what we've been shipping in Canvas Notebook over the last few weeks.
For those who don't know it: CN is a self-hosted AI workspace (files, terminal, chat, automation) with a built-in Studio Suite for image/video/sound generation — everything stays on your own machine.
**What's new since the last release:**
**Studio got more robust** — faster image uploads for products/personas/styles, better error handling with supported ratio hints, smoother preview loading states, and no more jumpy scroll when images load in chat.
**Chat quality improvements** — we finally fixed the "garbled AI response" issue by activating a thinking-filter that strips internal reasoning tags before display. Tool I/O now renders as structured key/value trees instead of raw JSON blobs. Plus: unsent composer drafts persist per session.
**Full email client** — IMAP search/read, SMTP send, multiple accounts, drafts, compose dialog, HTML preview, the works. Directly inside the workspace, no external app needed.
**Public sharing** — share files via short URLs with public previews (HTML, Markdown, Excalidraw diagrams). Good for quick client handoffs or portfolio pieces.
**Diagrams & slides** — Excalidraw editor with Mermaid import, plus Marp slide preview and PDF export.
**Automation hardening** — stale-run recovery on server startup, 10-minute execution timeout, better prompt editing UX.
**First-run setup** — new owners get a dedicated setup flow without redirect loops.
We build this as a **marketing and creator workspace**, not just a dev tool. The idea: produce AI content (images, videos, sounds, automated workflows) without ever sending your data to a cloud vendor.
Curious: what's your biggest pain point with current AI workspace tools? For us it was always "great features, but my files leave the machine" — so we fixed that.
