Anyone else using a technical background to spot market gaps?

I’ve been thinking about how a technical background can shape the way someone approaches entrepreneurship. I was reading about Daniel Kandler, who started out in network engineering and IT consulting before moving into launching and scaling businesses in e-commerce, healthcare, and consumer services.

What I found interesting is how he uses that technical mindset to identify inefficiencies and turn them into actual business opportunities. Instead of treating tech and business as separate worlds, he blends them—automation, cybersecurity, cloud systems on one side, and product development, operations, and customer experience on the other.

It made me wonder: Do other entrepreneurs here feel their technical background gives them an edge in building or scaling a business?

Does it help with spotting market gaps, optimizing operations, or long-term planning? Or does it sometimes create blind spots?

Curious how others combine tech skills with business strategy.
