What’s the best way to document 811 marks to protect yourself if something goes wrong?
After a recent near-miss on a dig, I’m trying to get more serious about documentation in case it ever turns into a claim or worse. Right now, we take photos of the marks and keep copies of the 811 tickets, but I’ve seen cases where that still didn’t seem to be enough. For those who’ve dealt with disputes or claims before what actually holds up? Are certain photo angles better? Do timestamps or GPS data matter? Is video walkthroughs worth the extra effort? How detailed should notes be, and when should you request re-marks? Basically trying to figure out what’s considered “good enough” from a safety and liability standpoint, not just checking a box. Would appreciate any real-world insight.
