The free reformed churches of Australia are a high control group.
I googled high control.
Examples of the high control in the FRCA:
Behaviour control: strict rules about who you date, where you work. What you watch, what you read.
Social isolation: children are isolated from outsiders through the John Calvin Christian Schools. All social activities are within the church. So if you leave you need to find new social groups.
Us vs Them mentality: examples, the ones who stay vs the ones who leave. The FRCA vs the Dutch churches.
Emotional control: we are taught that we are born into sin and deserve hell. We are taught we don’t deserve God’s love. This teaching creates intense guilt for vulnerable people.
Loss of autonomy: members cannot make their own decisions without the approval of elders and others in authority. Members struggle to make personal choices.
Psychological distress for those who leave: leaving the free reformed churches of Australia triggers severe anxiety, trauma and a difficulty in trusting new communities.
Find freedom. Just leave.
