How to actually check if a sexologist or andrologist in Delhi is qualified (not just going by the title on the signboard)
There's a lot of confusion in India about who actually treats male sexual health issues, so I wanted to put together something that might help people who are searching around Delhi and not sure where to start.
"Sexologist" gets thrown around a lot here, but it's not a protected or standardized title. Anyone can put it on a signboard. It doesn't necessarily tell you what training the person has or what conditions they actually specialize in. Andrology, on the other hand, is a recognized medical specialty that deals specifically with male reproductive and sexual health, and it requires additional fellowship training after a basic MBBS or MS degree. So when people ask how to find a good sexologist in Delhi, the more useful question is really what qualifications and clinical background that doctor has, not just what title they use.
A few things worth checking before booking an appointment with any andrologist in Delhi or elsewhere:
- Fellowship training specifically in andrology or sexual medicine, not just a general MBBS
- Actual clinical experience treating conditions like erectile dysfunction, low testosterone, premature ejaculation, or male infertility, rather than offering it as one small part of a broader general practice
- Whether treatment plans are based on proper diagnostic testing (hormone panels, semen analysis, ultrasound where relevant) instead of jumping straight to medication or procedures without evaluation
- How confidentiality and medical records are handled, since this is obviously a sensitive area for most patients
- Willingness to explain the reasoning behind a recommended treatment, including alternatives and limitations, rather than pushing one option
One thing that trips people up is assuming these issues are always psychological. Stress and anxiety can absolutely play a role, but hormonal, vascular, neurological, and metabolic causes are just as common, sometimes more so depending on age and other health conditions. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity are all linked to erectile and sexual function, so if someone has any of those, it's worth mentioning during a consult even if it feels unrelated.
Also worth knowing: this isn't only an older man's issue. Premature ejaculation, erectile difficulty, and fertility concerns show up in younger men too, and there's no real reason to put off getting it checked out just because of age.
If you're in Delhi specifically, in-person consults are obviously an option, but a lot of clinics now offer online consultations for an initial assessment too, with in-person visits recommended later only if testing or a procedure is actually needed. Worth asking about that if travel or scheduling is a concern.
Happy to answer questions if anyone's trying to figure out where to start.
