Click to Call vs Callback widget

Click to call vs Callback

If you've ever added a call button to a website, you've probably come across both of these. A lot of people treat them as interchangeable, but they really aren't — they target different moments in the customer journey.

Here's the short version:

Click to Call (WebRTC-based button)

The visitor clicks, the call starts instantly in their browser. No phone number needed, no extra software — just a mic and speakers. The employee picks up via a softphone or gets a forwarded call. That's it.

Best for:

Hot leads who are ready to talk right now

Mobile users (they're already on a phone)

Support flows where speed = satisfaction

Callback widget (form-based)

The visitor enters their number, optionally picks a time, and your system calls them back. The business is the active side here. You can configure when the widget appears — after X seconds, on scroll, on specific pages, etc.

Best for:

Hesitant visitors who aren't ready to call but might convert later

Outside business hours

Time zones where the visitor can't talk right now

Lead capture + CRM pipeline

Both connect to a cloud PBX, log calls, support recording, and integrate with analytics. Both are free to add to a site. The real question is just: do you want the visitor to reach you instantly, or do you want to capture them for a callback?

For most businesses, running both simultaneously makes sense — Click to Call for the "ready to buy now" crowd, Callback for everyone else.
