How to keep algae out of chicken water
Once you’ve scrubbed your waterer to get rid of algae, there are a few easy ways to help keep it from coming back. Try to keep your waterers out of direct sunlight, since algae grows faster in the sun. You can also add a splash of apple cider vinegar (about one tablespoon per gallon) to the water, but don’t do this if you’re using a metal waterer because the vinegar can cause it to rust. Using an enclosed waterer can also help keep algae and dirt out, so your chickens always have clean, fresh water to drink.
