Did AutoZone clerk mistaken my 2011 Nissan Versa for EV?

I drove my 2011 Versa to AutoZone after jump starting the battery. The clerk asked me, "Is it gas or electric?" Having tested the battery and the alternator, the clerk told me that my car has a security feature that can only be disabled at a mechanic shop before the battery can be replaced. Did the clerk think that Versa is EV or did he make up a story to brush me off? Is it even possible to confuse Versa for an EV?
