The Invitation (Indian Couple invite a Third)- Part 1.3
The story is a work of friction but the characters are from real life.
I and wife do fantasise this.
Chapter III.
The Night Tilts
Both children fell asleep in Kartik and Prerna’s room. One last half-hearted argument over a toy, then the quiet weight of exhaustion. Krishiv and Hridaan lay side by side, mouths slightly open, completely gone.
Prerna looked at them for a long moment.
“Let’s put them in her room,” she said. “Then we can sit for a bit. One drink. Nothing more.”
Kartik offered to carry Hridaan—he was heavier than Krishiv given his age—and asked Shruti to take Krishiv. They settled both boys on the bed. Shruti pulled the blanket over them with careful hands. Neither stirred.
When Kartik turned to leave, Shruti spoke softly.
“You go ahead. I’ll change into something comfortable and come.”
She closed the door behind him.
Alone, she stood in front of the small wardrobe longer than she needed to. There was a perfectly ordinary cotton night-suit folded on the shelf—loose, practical, the kind she always wore. Her hand hovered over it. Then, without fully understanding why, she reached past it.
The dress she chose was pale rose satin, soft and cool against her skin. Thin straps rested on her shoulders. The neckline was modest, rounded, revealing nothing. The hem fell to just below her knees. Nothing exposed. Nothing deliberate. Yet the fabric followed the small, firm shape of her breasts, the narrow line of her waist, the gentle curve of her hips, and the length of her thighs with a quiet honesty. She looked at herself in the mirror and felt a faint, almost embarrassed heat. Some part of her—the part that had felt invisible for years—wanted only a harmless, private reminder that she could still be seen. Just enough to remember what it felt like.
She left the room before she could change her mind.
Kartik returned to his own room and stopped in the doorway.
Prerna had already changed. She stood near the bed in a sleeveless satin nightie the colour of dark wine. Thin string straps rested on her shoulders. The neckline dipped low enough that the heavy weight of her breasts created a deep, soft cleavage the fabric could not fully contain. The material skimmed her waist and the fuller curve of her hips before ending high on her thighs. She looked soft and warm and entirely reachable.
Kartik’s eyes moved over her without permission. He stepped closer. One hand settled at her waist; the other rose until his palm covered the heavy curve of one breast through the satin. He leaned in and kissed the side of her neck, slow, already a little greedy. Prerna’s breath caught. Her hand came up to his chest, not quite pushing him away. He kissed her mouth, deeper this time, and she answered it for a few seconds before the knock came.
Both of them froze.
Shruti stood in the corridor in the pale rose satin. The soft light from the hallway caught the way the fabric followed every quiet line of her smaller body without revealing anything. Kartik’s gaze went to her before he could stop it. She noticed. Colour rose in her cheeks. She looked down, then forced her eyes back up, shy and suddenly very aware of herself.
“I… I’m ready,” she said quietly.
Kartik cleared his throat.
“I’ll just change. Prerna, make the drinks.”
He disappeared into the bathroom and came out a few minutes later in ordinary black track pants and a solid grey t-shirt—nothing remarkable. As he crossed the room a clean, warm scent moved with him, understated and familiar. Shruti noticed it at once. It settled quietly in the air between them.
The three of them took their places: Kartik and Prerna on the double sofa, Shruti on the single seater opposite, a low centre table between them. Prerna arranged the drinks. Kartik picked up the remote and put on a playlist of slow Hindi tracks from the 2000s and early 2010s—soft, unhurried songs that filled the room without demanding attention.
They drank. Conversation began the way it always did: the children, the drive, how tired everyone felt. The first glass loosened the edges. The second made the room feel warmer.
Prerna set her glass on the table.
“I’ll just use the washroom. Be right back.”
She rose and disappeared. The silence between Kartik and Shruti thickened.
“I’m still sorry about earlier,” she said, voice low. “Walking in like that. I should have waited.”
Kartik looked at her. The memory of standing naked in the doorway, water still on his skin, her eyes wide, rose between them without either of them naming it.
“It’s okay,” he said. “Really. Accident.”
Nothing more was said. But both of them felt the heat of the moment again—his body, her startled face, the way neither of them had moved for that single second too long. Alcohol made the memory sharper instead of softer. Arousal moved under it, quiet and uninvited.
Prerna returned and sat beside Kartik again. She noticed the slight tension in the air but said nothing. They drank.
Kartik’s eyes kept returning to the two women. The deep wine satin on his wife, the way her breasts pressed against the neckline every time she shifted. The pale rose on Shruti, how cleanly it showed the shape of her smaller body without offering anything more. The bathroom image still sat behind his eyes. The alcohol did the rest.
His hand found Prerna’s thigh over the satin and stayed there. She glanced at him, then quietly lifted his hand and set it back on his own knee. A clear, wordless refusal. He waited. A minute later his fingers returned, slower this time, resting higher on her thigh. Prerna’s breath changed. She removed his hand again, but her fingers lingered a second longer against his wrist before she let go.
Across from them, Shruti kept her face turned toward the television. The slow songs continued. She did not look at them. Yet every small movement registered. She saw the way Kartik’s hand returned. She saw Prerna push it away and then, the next time, not push it quite as firmly.
Kartik tried once more, slower still, believing the angle of the sofa and the soft light might hide the contact. His palm slid under the hem of the dark satin and rested against bare skin. Prerna’s body answered before her caution could. A small, involuntary shift of her hips. She did not remove his hand this time. Instead her own fingers settled lightly over his, holding him there rather than stopping him. The movement was tiny. She told herself Shruti would not notice.
Shruti noticed everything.
It was happening three feet away. The soft press of Kartik’s hand under the wine-coloured fabric. The way Prerna’s lips parted without sound. The quiet rise and fall of her chest. Heat pooled low in Shruti’s own body, unexpected and sharp. She told herself she should stand up, make an excuse, leave them alone. Her legs did not move. Something she had not felt in a long time—small, electric jolts of pure want—kept her fixed in place. She wanted, almost against her will, to see how far they would go before she forced herself to leave.
Kartik’s mouth found the side of Prerna’s neck. One string strap slipped slightly off her shoulder. Prerna’s eyes opened and found Shruti’s across the small space. For a moment the two women simply looked at each other. There was no accusation in Shruti’s face—only a raw, unguarded vulnerability that made the air between all three of them feel thinner.
Prerna remembered that night with sudden, startling clarity: the roleplay, the empty side of the bed, the imagined eyes watching them. The fantasy that had been only words and breath was sitting opposite them in pale rose satin, unable to look away.
Kartik felt the shift as well. He lifted his head. His eyes met Prerna’s. In that single look everything passed between them—the memory of the game they had played, the real woman now watching, the hesitation still living in all three of them, and the quiet, mutual decision that none of them were going to stop what had already begun.
Neither of them spoke.
The permission was given in silence.
