the damage of explicit media

NSFW

one of the biggest issues regarding body image and weakened self-esteem is stemmed from pornography and exposure to explicit material online. the more unsupervised access young teens have to material online, the more their underdeveloped brains are being moulded into thinking that sex and attractiveness should be based on what is shown in porn. this is beyond damaging as pornography is unrealistic and harmful.

even the consumption of regular sexualised media on apps like instagram and tiktok is ingraining in these young children’s/teens minds that women are objects that they can willingly sexualise and degrade.

as of adults, media online is normalising the sexualisation of women. people comment horrible degrading things on people’s bodies, which effects the person on the receiving end, AND anyone reading that comment. the way that beauty = worth online is so damaging and just leads to constant mistreatment and deep rooted body image issues.

this is something i’ve been really effected by lately and tbh i just want to throw my phone out and live rurally. unfortunately i have trouble separating myself from my phone and social media bc i have a crippling phone addiction, as do most of us. i just pray the world becomes less sexualised and we can exist and enjoy our life and bodies without thinking about if we’re worth it.
