Best choice for killing the optional boss in Anor Londo [spoilers]

So, and let me know if I'm LTtP on this, it seems to me that attacking Gwynevere first is the less optimal choice if you're going to kill Gwyndolin. I couldn't find it in the wikis (maybe I just fail at search), but personal experience shows that if you go the dissipate Gwynevere first route, you'll have to make the Painting Room rafters run to get back to Gwyndolin after every time he kills you (which, sure, doesn't matter if you kill him on the first go).

If you walk through his fog gate instead, AL stays in daylight, and you respawn just outside his room each time. Then you can kill the Lady of the Darkling (the firekeeper), and dissipate Gwynevere afterwards (which will bring on the sweet, sweet twilight).

Way back when, the first time I took him out, I had to make that damn rafter run so many times that I'm fairly certain I was in a fugue state...

Yeah, this is the way to go. But it isn't all bad if you do kill Gwynevere. As long as you don't kill the fire keeper then the fire wills stay up even if you die.

Sure, but you'd need to carefully warp around her, which is fine, just a bit of extra work. :)

Meh, not really any work because you never have to pass her even to get to the painted world. But yeah, like we agreed on it is best to simply challenge Gwyndolin straight up.

The trick is you run back to the Sen's Fortress bonfire and warp to the Darkmoon Tomb. Its faster and you only have to kill one enemy. its still really annoying though, I don't know why you don't respawn right there in the first place.

This has got to be the most oft-missed bonfire - From is so hilariously cruel. This is why I write a "bonfire" message for it every time I'm in the neighborhood. :)

BE EDITIN': This is the way I did it too, you can make a quick jump off the bridge coming into Sen's from Anor Londo and it's not that bad. Obviously killing Gwyndolin while it's still bright makes for a shorter run...I didn't even know you could do that tbh. Does it change anything?

You mean, does killing Gwyndolin change anything? Yeah, well the big change comes from attacking Gwynevere. It's pretty great, IMO. These are really related events though. Also, boss soul for upgrades. I'm only like 40% sure I understood your question, though. ;)

I've always killed Gwynevere before Gwyndolin, so I know how that goes down, but what happens if you kill Gwyndolin before Gwynevere?

Yes, outside on top there is a spot you can drop off the edge onto a balcony with a bonfire on it. Its near one of the blackened spots that the giant was throwing bombs at, specifically the second one you reach coming from inside the fortress.

There is a ledge on the area where the golem is throwing firebombs. If you fall down from there, you'll find it.

Yeah, that'd work, but I think you'd have to do that every time as well. It'll even reset Homewards.

The first fire in Anor Londo is linked to the Lady of the Darkling and if you kill her, it goes out. Since your respawn point is now an unlit bonfire, you have to make it back to where ever you need to be on foot, possibly facing invading Darkmoons if you are human as well. This makes for a very frustrating experience for those who would sin against the gods.

The guilty pay the price.

Nice try, Velka!

You are correct, OP. Killing Gwyndolin before Gwynevere makes the fight much easier, as you spawn right outside.

I didn't even kill Gwynevere in the end.

Yeah, I thought about leaving her, but in the end I kind of love twilight AL.

You could kill Gwyndolin first, then Gwynevere. You then don't have to kill Lady of the Darkling because she will have relocated to the bottom of the big staircase when you kill Gwynevere. If you don't kill Darkling, you can still use the Anor Londo bonfire.

True! I guess I figured in for a penny, in for a pound. ;)
