My issue with the proficiency system. (potential spoilers)
I wanted to make sure of Merrin in a magic class however you literally cannot do it because you have no way of getting staff or tome proficiency for quite a while. Thus you have what 5 or 6 chapters where she only gets 25% magic growth instead of 50%.
From what I can tell only Celica and Micaiah give those proficiencies.

100% agree. It’s not the worst thing to ever happen, but it’s definitely annoying. There’s a big stretch where you just don’t have those emblems, limiting team building. I decided to make Amber a Wolf Knight, but unfortunately I decided on that after chapter 11 lol. So I’ve had no way to give him knife proficiency yet.
I love the emblem stealing in concept, but in practice it feels limiting and too annoying for me to justify it being a worthwhile addition. At least not for as long as it goes
Taking away the only emblems so far with tome, staff, and knife proficiencies that we won’t get access to again until much later is baffling
Why couldn’t they have made some stuff up? Byleth has a boon in white magic, give him tome and staff proficiency. Lyn is fast, give her knife proficiency. Roy is there, give him axe proficiency (idk, the point is they should’ve spread out the proficiency. Not everyone needed sword proficiency, even though that’s the obvious choice because every lord uses a sword)
Yep being stuck with the engravings that you had before. IE my Iron Dagger +3 micihah that really needs to be on a silver dagger is annoying as well.
The engravings omg, yeah it’s bad… I still enjoy the game a lot, but i don’t think the emblem snatching was enough of a gag to have it go on for that long
There’s just weird quality of life things missing in this game. Idk, disappointing. Maybe new game plus and a patch will fix some of the issues I have
New game plus in particular, I’ll wait for that to start my next playthrough
My suspicion is they added problems to fix with paid dlc later on
