Can being knee up straight but not to the side

Seeking Advice

I think I have tightness in some part of my hips that I need to do stretches for but I don't know what. It's not a challenge for me to bring my knees up high but if I try to bring them up diagonally (like a Muay Thai kick check), I feel tightness on the inside part of my hips. Any idea what i'm supposed to be targetting or what kinds of stretches I can do?

Edit: typo in the title being -> bring

Being able to bring your knee out to the side stretches your adductors (inner thigh muscles) - the same muscles stretched in a straddle, frog pose, or middle split.

So sounds like you could benefit by stretching your inner thighs - I actually have a whoooooole bunch of adductor stretches listed in the Flexopedia on my website. A good gentle one to start with would be soemthing like Supine Half Frogger Leg Opens .

What does it mean if when you’re putting on your underwear, your knee does the Muay Thai check thing versus coming straight up?

I'm a bit confused by the question. Could you rephrase?

It was a random thing I was thinking about considering I think I’m kinda duck footed. When I lift my leg to put it through, naturally my knee points at a rough 45 degree angle vs coming straight up

Oh gotcha, no I don't experience anything like that. I went and saw a physiotherapist for an assessment the same day and it turned out my hips are just misaligned horizontally so when i try to use my hips to throw a knee or a kick, they end up clicking. Something along those lines.

If I do a kick check, my hip pops as I come back down. If I lift straight up knee and toes forward, it doesn’t happen. Same issue?
