This time last year Yibing Wu was ranked #1121 in the world. Today he makes his first ATP career final, the first Chinese man to make a final in the Open Era. He takes out #8 in the world Taylor Fritz and grabs at least a career high of #76 in the world next week.

High quality match this one and Wu earned the win. Really great stuff from him, big talent and he's just 23. We'll be seeing more of him. He'll face Isner tomorrow, Isner going for his 17th career title, Wu going for his 1st

Yaboi Wu Vs Isner the Giant is sure to be one for the ages. Isner can’t rally with this kid and this kid will have to figure out a way to handle Isners power. I’m more excited for tennis tomorrow than for the Super Bowl

Was hitting some crazy shots from both wings. Generates pace and angle out of nowhere. Djokovic-esqe daresay. Ice cold, doesn't seem phased. Some of the best shot-making seen this year, no cap. This guy is top 30 this year for sure. Injury magnet though, praying for him.

Oh god no… all the Djokovic comparisons particularly after beating him in 2018 jinxed Hyeon Chung and never was the same again.

Wu is already injury prone as is so let’s not go there. 🙂

Believe Wu has a way better serve than Chung , plays the net better also. A better serve goes a long ways in the atp.

I literately don’t see a weakness in Wu. Ben Shelton is looking real good as is Cressy.

Yes, seems like a very annoying game style to play can get this wicked spin and angle off of both wings but I'd say particularly his forehand. Great groundies, just a lot of skill there. Glad he's coming up, if he keeps going at this pace I agree going straight for top 30 if not top 20

The big thing was how well he opened up the court. Just seemed like he was constantly manipulating the rally to get the right ball. Side to side and front to back equally well, using all types of spin. Definitely very fun to watch

Obsessed with him and Qiwen right now.

Now I'm curious if someone from China made a final before the Open Era

Insane that there never has been a male chinese finalist.

His crosscourt forehand is good looking.

You all should be afraid if CCP really invest in this sport like they do for table tennis

4
Atxlaw2020•

They’ve been investing in the women’s game for awhile now and they have produced some great players, but not dominated. Then there’s the Peng Shui situation.

They invested hugely in football (soccer) and theyre trash.

And Yibing Wu just won the final 6-7, 7-6, 7-6... on his fifth match point.
