Matchmaking in this event is very baffling.

I thought it was very enjoyable. With a lot of people purposely not ranking up (e.g. remaining in gold rank), it makes sense to have a mixture of different ranks during festivals ☺️.

You can still enjoy the event. I have a lot of fun with it. I criticized its matchmaking doesn't mean I hates it with passion.

I don't mind playing against others near my bracket level, but diamond matching against silver/gold is not good for newer players. It's even weirder when you consider that previous events had matchmaking based on your rank, but this one doesn't even though it's a casual themed event.

Thing is, silvers playing against a diamond might not be a fun match for them, but it does provide a better learning opportunity than playing against other silvers. I don't get them often, but I always try to stick around for Duel Live matches of diamond players if I can learn from them. And well, it's very easy to find a different match against lower ranked players

MD has been figuring out pvp aspects slowly. First incentivising people to rank up by increasing gems in higher ranks and now events having mixed ranked opponents so people don't just stay gold, no point anymore.

Gold still has allure. I climbed to D this season and the landscape changes so drastically from gold to plat. Thankfully I climbed before Sprights, but P and D are ramp with meta. The high level play is fun but it can quickly become a bore. You've got none of the jankiness of Gold which is very entertaining imo. I can totally see someone staying in Gold for that. I did that last season and it was very fun.

I think I'll probably stick to low P. It's still got just enough of that Gold jank while also having enough flexibility to let you go up in P and fight meta if you so desire.

Sure but by have it at any rank. Imagine being new in silver or rookies as you cant camp that rank and facing diamond players in the event. That would suck. They should habe had it as gold-diamond rank can face each other.

That's fair. Sadly the ranked system is still messed up, it doesn't stop people who haven't played in a while to booted all the way down and stomp on newer players.

Right now, making people duel in various ranks is fine but I agree that some things still need work especially for new players.

I'm the type who doesn't play too much so I don't climb very highly usually I stomp my way up but I play too little to climb properly I'll win like 7 to 10 games in a row but I do it over a week so I barely go up in rankings. Then I stop ranking part way because I need to grind out the events for gems boom rank reset.

At this point people in silver will be playing experienced players on fresh accounts too.

There’s no real way around it for new players really, it’s just how it is.

I wouldn't be surprised if it worked like some games, where it starts off middle of the pack and gave you easier or harder opponents. Based on how well you're doing.

I just love the Hydrogen Bomb vs Coughing Baby between the first and second.

If someone has a Diamond I vs Training 2 matchup I'd love to see it.

This is EXACTLY how event matchmaking should be done. Otherwise people stay in low ranks for the events. Also allows you to play against a very broad spectrum of decks, which is perfect for casual fun events.

Well maybe not exactly, a dia shouldn't get matched with silver or bronze, but making it broader is fine.

Yh i like it, i asked for this in previous survey, because I would always try stay in gold for events which kinda made it hard to get gems from ranked

Yeah, I don't mind if they match me with diamond while I am on plat as the skill level is similar, but against Bronze and below? that is just bullying xd.

yeah i play the most during event and i purposely stay gold 1, and well i fought more diamond and plat in that event than gold lol.

The matchmaking is great tbh. Now I can chill in silver or gold for easy of getting gems but I will fight actual real players in events. Being restricted to only players in your rank that are also playing in the event is such a small pool of people that I would frequently run into people I had already faced. Once I beat the same person 3 times in a row.

I only played against diamonds and plats.

I don't mind playing against others near my rank bracket, but I think this is a little too much.

I always wondered on if they use skill based matchmaking since in ranked, you are always pitted against people of the same ranked.

But this might be the case for this event as everyone starts in the same matchmaking rating separate from ranked.

Especially since the deck you would use for this is usually different from the one you use in ranked.

I’m enjoying playing against more competitive players tbh, gives me more knowledge.

You do feel kinda bad when you do kickflip and murk some poor pure blue eyes kid.

Oh damn I didn’t even notice! I had to check and the guy who dropped eradicated epidemic virus on me 1st turn was a diamond 1 player. Luckily, I was just able to add all the spells I needed into my hand through monster effects lol

you mean like there is no matchmaking?
