Outdoor burner + Wok

Just got an eastman kahuna outdoor burner (kenji's 2nd pick rec). i own a 14" flat bottom wok with wood side handle & wood regular handle (https://www.wokshop.com/newstore/product/carbon-steel-wok-with-wood-side-handle-made-usa/) but given the size of the outdoor burner, was wondering if I get an additional wok -- ya'll have recs on whether to step up in size (16") and do the metal side handle one instead with wood hand handle (https://www.wokshop.com/newstore/product/carbon-steel-wok-with-metal-side-handle/) or a pow wok instead (https://www.wokshop.com/newstore/product/carbon-steel-pow-wok-hollow-metal-handle/)...? so many options...TIA!

Sorry my brain saw 16" in your post and it translated to my fingers by mistake. I have the 14" yokusata flat-bottomed wok. I love it, but heavy!

I got this burner. They come from Taiwan and Greg distributes them out of California. Super nice guy.

Good luck and have fun learning!

that's ok --- thanks! I am curious what the difference is between Yokusata's blue carbon steel and black carbon steel...

If your plan is to flip the food using the wok, then consider your strength. I have a 16"yokusata and when it's filled with food for four people, it's a pain to flip because of the weight (I'd like to think I'm an above average sized guy).

I try and limit my theatrics despite the advantages of flipping and allowing the flame to lick the oils and food.

yeah, that's a good point! where did you get a 16" yokusata btw? I only see 14" on their site & amazon (as the biggest size)

I have several kind of Wok... from 32 cm to 45cm but sometimes I think bigger Wok not always better especially when tossing the food, I have Wok burner so I can slide the Wok on top of the Wok burner not as heavy as lifting the Wok, my fav is the 34cm CS Wok only 1kg when empty. I think 14"/36cm size are very good for home cooking, and steel handle are too hot with Wok Burner you need extra rag or silicon handle to protect your hands.

I believe most of my Wok made by local Indonesian brands:

  1. 32cm CS Flat Bottom Wok made by Maspion local Indonesia Brand
  2. 34cm CS Round Bottom Wok made by local Indonesia but no Brand
  3. 36cm Black Steel Round Bottom Japanese style Wok made By Bima local Indonesia Brand
  4. 38cm CS Round Bottom Cantonese style with double ears Wok made by Golden Flying Fish local Indonesia Brand
  5. 45cm Black Steel Round Bottom Double Ear Wok probably import but rebranded with local Indonesia Brand RESTOMART

the cheapest is the 34 cm around 8usd and the most expensive is the 36cm around 23usd at the same prices as my Wok Burner(high-pressure stove)... I like cheaper stuff hahaha..
