Matchmaking does look at the decks and we've known this for a while
I'm not saying that it matches you against counters, a counter for you is a good matchup for the other player. But it does look at the decks as well as other parameters like tower level. How do we know? Have you started playing and then got nearly the same match up two or three times in a row? This is a regular occurrence for me. If the match making was random the chances of this happening are tiny. And I'm talking of decks that aren't that common, say three times in a row against lava-loon with only two different support cards? Or two sparky decks? The only explanation is that they do look at the decks.
Have any of you had the same match up two or three times in a row? If you play regularly I bet it has happened.

Humans are notorious for seeing patterns where none exist. It’s why we are awful at choosing ‘random’ passwords for example - we see two of the same letter in a row and assume a pattern with a cause. Matching does not take into account decks.
So you’ve never been hard countered by a deck with low usage multiple times in a row? It happens all the time, if you don’t see it, you are not playing enough or not paying attention.
BTW, I teach data science and I understand randomness. It doesn’t work like cr matching system.
Yes I have and it’s also failed to happen many more times. But we forget the second part because it’s not memorable.
