Apparently it does in their mind! Honestly though, it especially isn’t “making it your whole personality” when you are talking about the unjust treatment to you and others.
It’s like “trans people are people too, and deserve basic human rights like everyone else” = your whole personality is being trans in their minds. We all know the true reason they say it though.. it’s to make us sound irrational, “overreacting” to their bigotry and so on.

Also: if you are part of an oppressed group it is kind of normal that the concerns of this group are important to you.
And that if you have a long term illness, because that is what many mental health issues are, that it informs part of your behaviour. And sometimes you have to inform people about it so that they can understand you. For example: social situations make me anxious, and I can pass out from emotional stress (which is honestly a bad combination and kind of embarrassing). Happens once every few months, so not that much. But I have to inform people that are around me a lot about that, so that they can recognize the steps I take against it and do not freak out if I pass out. Because for many people somebody just fainting can be kind of scary.
