When driving, you can never really tell how many people are going the exact speed as you because you only truly encounter people going faster or slower.

False. I use cruise control and take many long drives on the highway. When you’re exactly keeping pace with another car, it’s obvious.

Sure but you’ll never catch up to another car that’s driving the same speed a few miles ahead. And the ones behind you will never catch up with you. I didn’t say you can’t tell whether ANY people are the same speed. I don’t see how you disproved anything.

You’ll never know if someone a few miles ahead of you is going faster than you because you’ll never catch up to them. You’ll never know if someone a few miles behind you is going slower than you either. You’ll only ever really have any awareness of the cars in your general vicinity. And you’ll be easily aware of those that are faster, slower, and going the same speed.

Lol I don’t know why you want to poke so many holes in a shower thought — the whole point is when you’re driving, almost all the people you’ll encounter are driving faster or slower than you. And very unlikely to ever see multiple cars that are driving the same speed.

It’s not really that uncommon for clusters of cars all going about 8 mph over the speed limit on an open stretch of highway to just cruise along for a while without overtaking each other. It’s also a common experience to try merging but someone is annoyingly keeping pace with you and not letting you merge.
