My thoughts on Logitech TrueForce: G923 vs. G920

Opinion

Many of us on this subreddit are getting or considering getting wheels for GT7. I haven't owned a wheel in years but with PSRV2, I decided to get a wheel and seat combo.

I settled on the G923 (refurbished for $310 CDN) with a Playseat Challenge.

My first experience with GT7 was amazing. The wheel and seat together elevated the whole experience. During my second session with the game, something felt off. The wheel was constantly vibrating, buzzing and more clunky overall. I decided to restart the PS5. Problem went away.

Third session. Same issue. Restart. And good to go once more.

With the fourth session, no matter how many times I restarted the PS5, the problem didn't go away. The only thing that had changed was that PS5 was updated with the latest firmware.

After some Googling and digging around in GT7 settings, I decided to turn off Vibration for P1. Problem solved! Turns out, what I thought was wrong with the wheel was actually working properly, and what I preferred was when TrueForce for one reason or another, was not working!

I tried a lower settings for the Vibration (around 25) and I suppose it's better. But I still think the whole effect of the TrueForce is just bad and not realistic at all! I have left it OFF.

Had I known this, I would have saved an additional $55 by just getting the G920 ($255 CDN!) because as I understand, thats pretty much the only difference between the two wheels.

Hope this helps someone decide on a wheel, and I'm curious what other people think of TrueForce.

Got my g923 today. Played a few hours and like trueforce so far.. seems like you can feel bumps when you go off track or get side swiped by another car

I think you’re describing the regular force feedback. I still feel all that with Vibration off. The TrueForce is more like a rumble/buzzing.

Ah yes, when another car hits yours from the side and your wheel jars, that's probably force feedback. When you go on the edge of the track, that realistic vibration must be trueforce.

The edge of the track is also simulated with standard force feedback. The very slight rumble you can additionally feel on the track - if you feel it - that is trueforce. And that is not the rumble that you feel on cross courses etc, that is also force feedback.

Some reviewers estimated that the extra vibrations in trueforce are extracted from the sound not the actual game information. That is also how bass kickers work.

Saw a review that said that TrueForce is the exact mechanism as the older wheel, it just tries to rumble whenever there is sound in the game.

Also, the reviewer said the same thing as you, that the upgrade wasn't worth it.

I'm going to buy a wheel with shifter this coming week, have been browsing MarketPlace and it's full of G920s and very few G923. I'll see what I can get without wasting that much.

The g923 also come with better pedals than the g29. The brake has a progressive spring that's supposed to be good.

There is nothing stopping you from putting in your own progressive spring into the older pedals. Costs $5-$30. Did it with my g27.

Yeah, i also reas that, that the brake is better. I think of o get the G29 the brake will get softer over use?

The thing here is, the guy that sell the G923 is like 2 hours away + tolls and gas.

The one selling the G29 is 30 min away. Both wheels come with shifter.

I think it's not worth upgrading from a g29 to a g923. They are very similar, but if it's a choice between the two, then it's going to come down to price. In the UK, the g29 is £220 and the g923 is £280. For me, the upgrades are worth the extra cost, but I wouldn't pay any more than that.

Since I have one seller like 30 min away, i think I'll go with that one.

Thanks for your time, i appreciate it.
