Any chatter about 8/10gig internally at Frontier?
I know some of the people that hang out here work directly with bringing the fiber rollout plans to life and work in the field for Frontier or are a contractor for them. I'm just curious, don't really care if it's only locker room talk? I also ask because Google Fiber is about to roll out 8gig and I think AT&T already has? Lot of 10gig ISPs on the Utopia fiber network (Utah) as well.
Nobody needs that speed, but it's nice to know what's being talked about and whether or not steps are being taken to go to an 8/10G network in the next year or so. Hell, for all I know, the equipment is already in place to go to 8 and 10G and it's just not offered yet. 🤷♂️

Didn't they just start offering 5gig a couple weeks ago?
Wen iPhone 16?! What are the features?!
In all seriousness, I think 5 gig has been out for a few months now, but don't quote me on it. Days blur to weeks. There's no reason for me to ask, I just wanted to know if it's being talked about since there are ISPs already doing 8/10 and the 5gig is feeling a little slow and less brag-worthy when you are trying to be on the bleeding edge. lol
We are not allowed to release that info outside of a major announcement. What I can tell you is that the ONT we use maxes at 10gig, for now, the PON in the office with a simple card swap and new pons or added in, that equipment supports 25 gig. But as for now, 99% if people can only handle a 10gig connection anyways. Maybe in 5 years. 10 years. At one point 20 Mbps was considered insane and who would ever need more. Wounder if we ever will find the answer of how much is enough some day people might have 100gig to their homes..... Or faster. This is an interesting time that we live in.
Nothing will ever be enough until we can jack in to the matrix and experience virtual reality with all 5 senses. Going to guess that’ll take 100gbps minimum per person jacked in. 😜 😉
Maybe we are already inside the matrix.....
Yea 5gig rolled out at the beginning of Feb. I sure hope we're not doing higher speeds yet. Majority of Customers can't/don't know how to utilize it correctly and FTR has a problem with rolling things out with poor testing.
