Big Parasol

The card reads: As long as the Pokémon this card is attached to is in the Active Spot, prevent all effects of attacks from your opponent’s Pokémon done to all of your Pokémon. (Existing effects are not removed. Damage is not an effect.)

But why are moves that have any effects on them still going through? For example: Move does damage+ based on an EFFECT under it (i.e. does X more damage depending on X), and yet it is still doing the full damage despite the effect supposedly being negated?

Shouldn't the move JUST do the base damage and then nothing else?

This might help:

Attack says flip three coins, +30 damage for each heads. This is simply adding more damage, this type of attack will not be affected.

Attack says do 30 damage, and Active is now Poisoned. You will take 30 damage. You will not gain the Poisoned status condition. Attacks like this will be affected.

Alright, that makes sense. Thank you for the explanation!

Damage is not an effect, regardless of how it's 'calculated'

The effect of the extra damage is on the opponents active not on your active, so your big parasol won’t prevent effects being done to you since there are none on you. If you gave a more specific example it’d be easier to explain It to you

It’s just damage calculation, not an effect. Just because it has text under the attack name doesn’t mean that text is an effect.

Not to mention that Big Parasol only blocks effects that directly target your Pokémon.
